The locking diff has nothing to do with your mileage. In fact above 15mph it is not even working, it disengages itself. Also it is not any stronger than the standard axle, just has a mechanical locking system that's all. It must be really flat where you live or you are driving like an old man. I have 13 used Envoys/Trailblazers on the lot and not one owner got above a 18 mpg city highway average. Most were around the 16 to 17 range.

You must drive a Ford, I can't figure out why Ford doesn't use the "Quality is job 1" slogan anymore?
Here are the past Ford slogans:
"Built Ford tough!"---------------------------------Yeah, right?!
"Everything We Do is Driven By You."-----But no one drive them, do they?
"Ford has a better idea."-------------------------LOL!
"Have you driven a Ford lately"----------------F%@K NO!
"Quality is Job 1."----------------------------------LMFAO!
"There's a Ford in your Future."---------------Look at thier stock.
"A word to the wise ain't necessary -- it's the stupid ones that need the advice."

My average was mostly highway considering I was on the highway doing 72mph for more than 2 tank of fuel. I reset the gauge intentionally before getting on the highway to see what I would really be getting as highway mileage, around town I get 18 MPG all day long, never less.
Here is the posted average MPG:
Miles Per Gallon
City: 16 MPG - 17 MPG
Highway: 21 MPG - 22 MPG
What did you think the Envoy gets around town, 12 MPG?
You must work at a car dealer or something. Well when you have a consumer test drive a vehicle, do they drive around town to try it out or jump on the highway and only drive 70 in a straight line? So why do you think your Envoy at your dealer might show less MPG?

I have sold GM cars and trucks for 11 years now. I just got rid of my Envoy, 2005 SLT short body with a 3.73 with the G80 locking diff. Envoys get the same mileage as 1/2 ton with a 5.3L. And yes going down my 1.5 mile driveway to my house the Envoys show 7 mpg. This is based off Envoys with instant economy readings, our 2005 did not have instant MPG reading, but using the same rear end set up that is what they got. We order all of them with 3.73 and G80. Of course when you reset it before you get on the highway you will get an inflated mileage reading. I have driven more than 20 T trucks, I get a demo and free gas, and my mileage is always with in 2 mpg on each one. When GM Designed the 4.2L it was for performance not fuel economy, and it is still one of my favorite engines. I would like to see them get rid of the 4.8L V8 and replace with 4.2L. The 4.2L is great just not not great on gas.

It was scary pulling the boat up the launch ramp with da 4.2, no low end torqueless POS shoulda went into a car. They overrated the trailblazer's towing capacity by a ton and a half, unless you like pulling tapped out in 2nd gear at 6,000 rpm's.
