Whats a good cell phone for kids?
1.)Phone has to be less than $100. (he is payin for it himself)
2.)No monthly plan, pay as you go. (calling card kinda deal) For emergency purposes only, kinda thing.

A pay phone and 25c is a thing of the past I guess.

and don't waste your time preachin to me about parenting, you can't... stick to the subject and answer the questions.
Love,
Riggs

For 10 bucks a month get a phone added to your plan. Make him pay the 10 bucks and any airtime over the limit. Texting is like 5 bucks a month for unlimited. So for 15 bucks a month he's in. Most added phones are free. (not the wizbang ones he's gonna cry for) lol

you can go online to see who he is callin if need be....the government does it anyways...lol

If the phone don't matter, just buy a TracFone at yer local Walmart type a store. That is pay as you go so der's no surprises. Uses any cell phone towers and there's no contract to sign.

T-Mobile pay as you go plan is the only one I know of that doesn't require a "monthly" type fee or some sort.

Phone at Wal-Mart or Target, Nokia for about $35. Cards come in 10, 25, 50, $100 denominations. All the cards but the $100 denomination a good for 90 days. If you buy the $100 card the minutes are good for a year and you automatically become part of the "Gold Plan" and any additional minutes are good for a year from purchase as well.

At the $100 mark that is 1000 minutes. So for about $140 you get the phone plus 1000 minutes and I think a bonus 100 or something with the phone. That comes to $11.66 a month, I haven't found better in any of the major plans.

Coverage in WI. http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/pcc.aspx

Thanks F, I'll look into it.

M.C, I think I looked into adding another phone to our plan and it was closer to $50 than $10 and there is no way he could afford additional airtime (we have a 300 minute limit a month, I think?)and use 298 minutes per month.

Ice, kinda need it for leavin him on a camping island on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage (similar to the Boundary Waters)... we are only 5 minutes away from a launch (in Mercer) but storms blow up quick and can get people dead. It would save me from a panic attack with a 10 second call, or if he caught a 45" Muskie, 20" Smallie, or if he needs to get rid of a limit of Crappies, more bacon etc... borderline child abuse, so keep this between us.
And he already has a .410/.22 over-under that he got for his 10th B-day that he takes EVERYWHERE.

SB, are those phones good anywhere yous go (in the state/U.S)? Then you just buy $30 worth of talk time once in awhile?

I hear ya Dork, my taller boy is havin me sell everything he owns (and don't use anymore) on Criagslist to get enough cabbage for a can & string. Lookin at about $200 bucks right now and he is doing chores with no questions asked.

we have the Verizon family plan...59.99 a month for 2. We added the mom in law for 10.00 more. we get 700 minutes free. Verizon to verizon is free airtime anywhere.
Check your sons buds phohes. If they are verizon they will be free. Just the 10 spot every month.
