Here's the "benefits" just taking fuel usage into account (not counting tax incentives or maintenance costs of one or the other)
Std: 15,000/16 mpg (average of the non-hybrid 5.3) = 937.5 gallons x $4 = $3,750
Hybrid: 15,000/21mpg = 714.3 gallons x $4 = $2,857.20
Annual fuel savings of $892.80. Sounds like real money ...
But the cost of the hybrid two-mode drive system adds about $12k. It will only take 13 1/2 years to pay for itself, assuming both trucks have a 200,000 mile-plus lifespan.
Gee, sign me up.

Standard Base price: 2008 Yukon Hybrid: $50,045
Standard base price: 2008 Yukon: $37,340
Granted, adding the SLT-2 package to the non-hybrid adds $4,225 to make the equipment list more comparable . Here's what edmunds had to say about it.
Edmunds:
The Cost/Benefit Full Monty
Naturally, the lower fuel cost and fuel savings are only part of the Tahoe two-mode hybrid's story. Here is the rest: Our test truck — equipped with a 6.0-liter V8 and electrically controlled variable transmission, navigation system and rear-seat DVD player — cost $51,785. That's about $6,900 more than a comparably equipped standard Tahoe with the 5.3-liter V8 and four-speed automatic transmission.
Until the sales of this GM hybrid reaches 60,000 units, the IRS offers a $2,200 tax credit, bringing the cost premium down to about $4,660. Even more math will tell you that to recoup the price premium in fuel savings at a rate of 15,000 miles of annual driving will require more than 10 years. This is hardly a strong enough argument to convince those shopping from a cost-only perspective that the fuel-efficient Tahoe Hybrid is a good idea.

I have not ordered one for our dealership. The only advantage it would give a customer is if they drove it 90% of the time in the city. Our reps drive them, and are getting 20mpg, guess what my sales guys gets with his slt 5.3l 20 mpg. Where we live there is no city driving, so it provides no benefit to my customer.
Now on to the hybrid thing. It is all BS, they are far more damaging to the environment in their life cycle than a standard vehicle. I wish GM did not make them and told people the reason why.

so you are one of those guys eh timmay. ooh edmunds says. LOL
those vehicles are on our lot with those msrps and you get the extra pulling power of the 6 litre. so with the tax credit you come out ahead with the hybrid unless you use edmonds/tims math.
