Agreed. Look at the cost of a Canadian pass, wow. I just hate to use the "look at what they're paying" argument when it comes to cost of gov't services.
Some states do it better, sconny has the best groomed and marked system out there and they are always a step behind when it comes to Charging the public.

Sled riding in Michigan is a bargain in my book. Especially for out of staters. All they need is their state's registration and the $25 sticker fee. A small amount compared to what we have to pay in other states. And the DNR here doesn't pay much attention to registrations anyway.....if they see you with the trail sticker on the front yer good enough. My "09" trail sticker is already on the sled...still $25. I talked to the MSA guys at Nelson's last month and they told me they had wanted an increase in the cost for this season but for some reason it didn't happen. And said there would be fewer trails groomed because of the price of fuel. But of coarse that was before the prices started their retreat, so that might not be the case now. I think they've done a super job of grooming in the last few years, and I certainly don't mind paying more to keep them that way. A small price to pay compared to all the other expenses involved in riding thousands of miles during the season.

No doubt. Not trying to beat up Michigan because I do ride there a lot. I am just surprised that the residents don't get some kind of a break. Like charging me $50 and you $25. If I had the money to travel there, drop some cash.
If you have a boat in Michigan water for an excess of 7 days you are required to have M tags. Most other states don't do that. Chain of Lakes Illinois makes everyone pay more for a chain sticker. They have seasonal and three day passes. This leaves me perplexed because I had Illinios registration and can use any other waterway in the state.
$35 doesn't bother me, as long as it gets spent where it's supposed to and so far Michigan has been very fair to the users.

Serious question.
Why do you guys preach lower taxes, lower fee's, UNLESS it involves snowmobiling?
Where snowmobiling is involved, MORE money going to the gov. gets the thumbs up.

FIB, on the trail stickers, 100% of the money goes directly back to the sport. Wether for new groomers or fixing old ones. (At least that is what i was told at the Novi snow show last year.) Registration sticker money goes into the state general fund and we're lucky if we get 30% of that money back. That is why most here have no problem with paying more for the trail permit, reg. sticker might be another story.

You silly fuk! Big difference when I ride trails as often as I do and see how nice they are almost everytime out. Money well spent! Compare that to throwing money at the government at every level and knowing the city is broke and run by crackheads, state being the worse in the country, and the feds broke and spending tons on folks who sit home and spend money on fancy wheels and more crack........ Gotta go my biking buddy is here.

because it was FREE/affordable up til recently
But on a different note I'm gonna promote legislation in Wisconsin to charge a permit fee for Illinois OUTA STATE snowmobiles & ATV's.
$1000 per season.
Don't matter much snowmobiling is on its way out-ATV's have taken over.

Good luck with that.
On the other hand, Maybe someone can put a bug in Mayor Daley's ear about sueing Harley Davidson into bankruptcy for producing loud obnoxous turds.
