Sorry GM signed the contracts too. Any one of you guys here would sign a work contract for what you thought was a great salary too.

Keep throwing American workers under the bus.

A/C workers will be next but who needs em, the chinese could build a better and cheaper sled anyway.

FYI, myself and just about every other person on this board are American workers who aren't looking for a handout.

FIB, I don't know about Chicago, but if it is anything like what happened in Michigan....which was Granholm promising to cut government etc......what she did was offer early retirement and then also include those who were due to retire in her cut-back figures. Then these employees were replaced with independent contractors. A neighbor who was making $80,000 a year and took early retirement, and then was hired back at $165,000 a year as an independent contractor.

This year we had a young college graduate working for us. He looked for state jobs on a regular basis and was having no luck and would only find a few listings. He decided to do an internship with the state and once he was in was given a password and access to pages and pages of job openings, entry level at $19 an hour. I still haven't figured out how the state can have all the openings available to people in the system and not available for the public.

4thdoo or one of the other liberal Chicagoians may know more about this. But the Chicago station I listen to, said "after" early retirement offerings failed to get the desired number of people they wanted, they would have to lay off 1,000 people. Then, there were some negotiations with city unions, that droped the number to 775. So the 775 are actual layoffs. AGAIN, according to the local media.

Thanks Fib, I am your guy! First off they did lay off a couple hundo of workers, only there to suplement the city workers.

Fire and Po-po gots a federal law to be done by 63. done

This is the best part, Pam's neighbor can turn a $63k to a $180k job. I do know why.

The same job that pays 80 cost 180! Pension, SS, health and welfare, office overhead?

City of Chicago figured it was easier to have a hired truck scandal, than use their own trucks and drivers. Back to the city trucks and drivers now. Huge public outcry.

How many people do you know who have retired from the military, gone on to work for state or local government, and then retired from them also, and then gone on to get a regular job to pass the time and add social security benefits? I don't know alot of them, but I can count about 10 without really thinking about it. Is what they did bad or wrong or just plain smart?

So ultimatly, we would be bailing out the UAW??? (from what I've heard/read on the news and you people)
Why should the average consumer care how well the pension plan or health insurance plan of a UAW employee is holding when most Americans have neither? And why were people paying $40,000.00 for a pick up truck to begain with? Sounds silly when you say it out loud.

bailout would be a payoff to michigan politicians and the UAW. Michigan government should have stepped in years ago on this, but no they just did nothing because democrats support unions and michigan is a union state and if the politicians don't support unions they lose votes. why do you think Obama won all the strong union states he promised all the UAW members we will bring Auto jobs back to the USA (LIAR) those jobs are gone. if the small 3 do get a bailout it will not be until Obama becomes president and the democrats have the majority in the congress. the democrats support the unions who are killing the economy in this country. more unions more lost jobs for the USA. companies will just go somewhere else. democrats also support amnesty for illegal immigrants that means health care and social security for illegals. great idea giving illegals health care and social security and they have never paid any taxes. getting it all for FREE.
